Totally worth it.

I'm happy to report Kurama came out of surgery just fine. She had to have almost all the teeth on her lower right side taken out, and some others here and there, but Grandma says she's feeling so much better, and when I Skyped with them, she looked her happy self. My uncle is visiting for a while to take care of Grandpa's affairs, and he brought his two little dogs, and apparently the three of them are "raising hell." Grandma said the vet's office took full-body x-rays and blood tests and basically gave Kurama a thorough checkup, and she's very healthy. Just a few teeth lighter.

So, I'm relieved.

And $1100 poorer.

So very special.

♥ ♥ ♥

I have the very best, most wonderful, special Grandmother in the world.

She's going to pay for Kurama's surgery.

I told her she doesn't have to, that I can put the money together myself in a few months. From the beginning I've said I'll bear all puppy-related expenses, and I will, but Grandma doesn't want to wait to get the surgery done, so she said she'll use some money that she's had squirreled away, and I can pay her back. And I will. Probably with interest, if she'll accept it.

It's that Kurama has some abscesses in her teeth, and some teeth are loose. She hasn't been eating much, and the vet said the teeth have to come out. But the surgery could cost up to $1500, and as I've rather recently said, I don't have that much money laying around. But the suggestion that she might have to get put to sleep really hurt me. Why should she have to lose her life just because she has bad teeth? The rest of her is relatively healthy.

But it'll get taken care of, so I'm relieved. Though I don't like my Grandmother using her own money, even if she'll get paid back. I'm pissed at the vet's office for not allowing payment plans, as though they're more concerned about the money than the animals. But if my pup can feel better, I'll get over it.

I realize, of course, that Kurama is nearing the end of her life anyway. She's over 11 years old, so if she passes away simply from old age in the next year or so, I wouldn't be surprised. But I feel she should be allowed to live out her full lifespan happily, not killed off because of bad teeth.

The surgery is on Monday, and I'll be a wreck until it's done and I know she's ok.

After all this time

There's still

Dog hair

All over my everything.

Nov. 17th, 2009

Don't get me wrong, I still love me kitties... but...

Why dogs are better than cats:

When you drop your spool of thread you can point at it and go "Get it!!" and she'll get it and bring it to you. =P

Also, this.

Of pets-

So my Grandma's cat, Tomo, has been sick for a while now. .... Mm.. well, not actively sick, but he used to be really really fat, and then all of a sudden he lost a lot of weight, really fast. And Grandma kept waffling, undecided if she should take him to the vet, when to take him to the vet, forgetting to make vet appointments, etc. But today, after months of this waffling, we finally took him to the vet.

After telling the vet Tomo's symptoms, how kitty eats and eats and eats, but gets skinnier and skinnier, the vet said it may be hyperthyroidism, or diabetes. He said they'd have to do bloodwork to know for sure, but in the end Grandma wasn't willing to pay the $120 to have that done. She said, in not so many words, that she's going to just let him get sick and die.

Oh, and when we got home she thought about giving him bacon and other such things, "to fatten him up again."

I feel bad, but what can I do? Pay for the tests for her? But then what, do I continue on paying for the treatment? What if I move? Take him with me? Or leave it to her, when she'll just stop giving the treatments I'd been paying for, and he dies anyway? I wish I could, but he's not my cat, and I can't afford to save every pet the owner doesn't want to take care of. Even though I wish I could.

And I keep thinking, if this were Kurama, what would I do? Well, of course, without hesitation I would get the bloodwork. And if she needed special food or medicine for the rest of her life, I'd get it for her. Because she is my pet, and I made a commitment to her when I signed the adoption papers.

But the number one thing that keeps running though my mind is how this could have happened to Kurama, because my Grandparents don't know how to take care of animals. And I know, I know, they like to say "I've been taking care of animals since before you were born!" But they never seem to remember that none of their pets (at least that I've seen in my lifetime) have died of old age; they either get sick or run away.

They kept giving my dog anything they wanted. No matter how many times I said not to, they'd just keep on feeding her what-the-fuck-ever, until she stopped eating her dog food altogether. And they got so mad when I started locking her in my room when I was gone. What else could I do!? But my room now is bigger than the pen she had outside in CA, and vets have said it's ok to crate a dog while the owner is at work, so I'm pretty sure her being in a large, warm room for a few hours a day isn't going to hurt her.

And most importantly, she eats her dog food, and doesn't have diabetes.

Because I take care of my pet, I'm pretty sure she'll live forever. .^_~

I may have finally found a treat Kurama will actually eat.

Of course, they're $1.50 per little cupcake. .=_=

I don't know who she gets this from. It's certainly not from my side of the family.

Puppy love~

It doesn't matter who they are, everyone turns into a wibbling giddy mass when my puppy comes around.

Jan. 24th, 2009

later and later

I think I say this all the time, but you know I'm back in school when my stories come later and later in the week. .^^

But! These guys needed more love. =3

Hee hee... and in a fit of procrastination I made up a relationship chart for our characters. .^^ But it contains a whooooole lot of spoilers, so I won't post it. ;P

And in other news, we had a major scare the past few days. .;_; The other day Kurama suddenly got violently ill, and started vomiting all over the place. And it, literally, smelled like shit. .>_> She loves cat feces (bleh... just writing that sounds gross), so I keep a close eye on her to make sure she doesn't go litter-box diving. But the cats go outside a lot, and I suspect Kura found some tasty little morsel to munch on outside. It's just a theory, but it's all I can think may have happened.

Then she vomited it all up, and was in a lot of pain. She spent that whole night barely moving, just laying there, whimpering. The next day (yesterday) she wasn't whimpering, but she was very lethargic, which is totally unlike her. And she didn't eat at all. I was very very worried, and said if she didn't get better by today I'd take her to the vet.

By later last night, she started moving around more, and ate a little bit of her dog food. Today she's back to bouncing around, and barking at everything. Back to her usual self. Still hasn't eaten very much, but I think she'll be ok.

Ah, my poor puppy. .;_; Why does she do this to me?

*sigh* Ok, back to work.

Quote of the day:

Me: "You are a puppy! Do you understand all that comes with being a puppy!?! It's a big responsibility! Can you handle it?" D=

Kurama: o_o

Sep. 16th, 2007

Of puppies, Ren Fests, and Bleach.

Today, Kurama and I went to the Renaissance Festival. .^__^

Well, I mean, I went last week, with friends and dolls (which I still need to post pics of..), but we didn't stay too long, and didn't see too much.

I must, as usual, fully advocate doing things on one's own. There's something to say for being able to go where you want and do what you want and see what you want, without having to compromise your wishes with those of others. =3 Today, the only person I had to confer with was my puppy, and she didn't care where we went, as long as there was stuff to sniff. X3

Everyone loved her too. .^-^ Everyone wanted to pet her and said how cute she was, and tried to figure out what she was. .^o^ She got called a fox, a wolf, a coyote, an African spotted wild dog, and a raccoon (WTF? .^^* ). And she had such a good time! .^__^

She was also 100 times more well-behaved then most of the children there. Handled all the pettings and other stimulation very well, didn't try to run off or anything, and the only time she barked at all was when we were watching the joust, when the horses first came out. Then she settled right down and continued flirting with all the humans around us who wanted to pet her. .^,^
So why it took so long for them to decide dogs were ok, but have always welcomed kids, is beyond me.

But someone tell me, WTF is up with people bringing babies to the Ren Fest?? It's not like they can appreciate or enjoy or understand what the hell is going on. All they know is they're hot and tired and miserable. I swear to gods, people should need a license to be a parent. .>_< Hey, lets go give our baby a sunburn so we can get drunk and eat turkey legs! Huzzah!! .... Idiots. .-_-

Anyway! About the joust! =D We happened to sit on the side designated to cheer for England. =D =D Yey, England! XD ( ::randomly blows a kiss to Brishen:: >3 ) But in the end, the German won. XD Yey, German! ( ::randomly blows a kiss to Gü:: XD ) It was big fun.

And now I have a pooped puppy. =3

The other day (or was it yesterday?), I finished downloading the Bleach movie 'Memories of Nobody', so I just now finished watching that.

It was ok. ::nods::

I mean... I think there was way too much focus on this original character, and not enough on the characters we know and love, and are actually watching the movie for. But then, isn't that how all anime movies are?

I think it'd be more better if there could be a movie about the things we actually care about. As an expansion of the series, where we can explore things we'd really like to know. Like... what's the name of Kenpachi's zanpakuto? What is Ukitake's bankai? Just how cute was Ukitake as a child? What do Ukitake and Byakuya do when alone together? Will Byakuya ever top?

You know.. important things. XD
(clearly, examples of what I would like to see are a bit biased)

In this movie... Byakuya got all of, what, two lines? Fucking Mayuri got more lines than that! (though I will admit to squeeing obnoxiously when Ukitake first appeared X3 ) Ishida and Chad showed up (at least ::eyeroll::), but didn't do a single thing. In fact, Chad's only line was a tiny, blink-and-you'll-miss-it grunt.

Shafted, man! Shafted!

Oh Bleach. I expected so much more from you.

::streeeetch:: Anyway~ early class tomorrow. Time for beds.
