Youmacon 2007

Well, the story is, last week I randomly bumped into a friend at school (and we later had sushi =3 ), and while talking she suddenly asked if I was going to Youmacon. I said I was, and she got excited, saying she was going to be cosplaying L from 'Death Note'. XD I laughed, and told her my plans to cosplay Mikami.

The other day said friend called me and said she'd come up with a skit for the masquerade, and I was going to be in it. Cool.

Then comes today. Con day! =D Was pretty exciting, as I haven't been to a real con in close to two years.

The 'Death Note' cosplay photoshoot was scheduled for 10am, but registration didn't open until 9am. I didn't want to miss the photoshoot being stuck in reg. line, so... I just showed up at 7:30am. Was sixth in line. (well... I started off first, but some people cut in front of me. or... I was standing in the wrong spot or something...)
The photoshoot was fun; I was the only Mikami, and there was a sea of Ls. .^^ Quite a few Lights as well. Though I must say it bugs me that some people think if they put on a pair of tan pants, they can claim themselves to be Light. .-_- There was a guy in tan pants and a blue, striped shirt, with a goatee; he got in all the pictures that called for there to be Lights. Bleh... at least give it some effort. I don't begrudge cosplayers for their body type, height, skin color, etc. If there are things you just can't change about yourself, you shouldn't not cosplay the character you want. But shit, shave the scrub off your face, and pick up a $4 white button-up from the Salvation Army. If you're not willing to at least do that, then stay out of the pictures.

*huff*

Anyway. It was pretty fun. 'Though I only got into two pictures. .^^ The general group one, and one of Mikami and all the Lights. .^^ In which I didn't do anything special. I'm lame.
But in general, I was just really happy people actually recognized me! =D And it wasn't even a "I think you're... but I'm not sure...." There were so many "MIKAMI! ::glomp!::" .^^ One person said she thought Mikami was hot, until she realized he was a psycho; I laughed and said I thought he was hot, then realized he was a psycho, and that made me love him all the more. XD

Then friends and I went out to eat at a Thai restaurant. I had spring rolls; they were ok (a little too pepper-y .o_O ). Then back to the convention center to practice our skit. And did...some other stuff. .^^
At some point we all got separated/went our own ways, and I made my way to the dealer's room. It.......... sucked. .o_o There were maybe 14 tables/booths, and they were all crammed into this tiny little room that was so stuffed full of people it was impossible to move, much less actually look at or buy anything. .... Yet that still didn't stop me from buying PR0N. XD The only thing I bought was a TykixAllen doujinshi (ignoring that I like RabixAllen much more, but damnit, I wanted nekkid Tyki, and that was the only pairing they had for him).

Also ran into and chatted with other friends - mostly (if not all of them) people from the doll group. .^^

Oh yeah! I did take Günter and Tachi in their cosplays... but admittedly, I never took them out of my bag. .;_; There was just never a good time or place; we never stopped moving, and everything was so crowded and I didn't want them damaged or wigs lost or whatnot. .;_; So the only time they came out was when we took a break in someone's hotel room; I brought them out there and some of the girls in our group squeed over them. .^^ Tachi got LOTS of snugglies. XP

I had wanted to get an autograph; Johnny Yong Bosch, who does Ichigo's dub voice (as well as Vash the Stampede's from 'Trigun'), was there, and I wanted to get him to sign a Vash shiny postcard thing I have. But the line was super long and by then my feet were killing me and my whole body was sore, so I really didn't feel like standing in line for a long time. Plus I was afraid we'd miss being where we needed to be for the masquerade on time, so I didn't get autograph. .;_; Which was sad, since it was half the reason I went. .>_> But... there will be other times.

So yes. Much wandering, until it was time to get ready for masquerade. And then we did that, and it was fun. .^_^ Our skit was something like Light and L were arguing over who would destroy whom, and Light saying he would win because he has a "minion" (being, Mikami), and L trying to say he had a minion too, which was Near, but Near wouldn't have it. Light and L argue, getting closer and closer, and Misa says it looked like they were going to make out, so should be left alone and hay! lets go shopping for shoes! Light and L are left alone onstage, and there is much innuendo. XP Oh yes, and Mikami sucking Light's.... Er, nevermind. XD
But something like that. .^^

Then they did the awards, and HAY! we won! =D Well, nothing major, but we got a judge's award (meaning one judge thought we were pretty good, even if the other's didn't agree), which isn't that fantastic, but at the same time, is. .^^ Because I'm not one of the super awesome people who wins Best of Show every con, so to get something, even the lowest award they give, is pretty awesome. =3
They should have it up on YouTube soon, so I'll post the link when it's up. =3

There wasn't much going on after that, except for the dance, which I wasn't interested in at all but everyone else was. So they all went and I just sat outside for a while, 'cause I was burning up .o_O (wearing two coats in a crowded convention hall is harsh..) and there was a Mello and Matt that I had talked to at the photoshoot hanging about, so I messed around with them for a while. Mello was very cute and huggy and gave me chocolate. .^__^

Then I went back in, said goodbyes to people, and went home. .^^ And that was it! =D Got home about 11:30pm, making for a good 14 hours of conventioning.
Though I can tell I'm getting old. .^^* In California I was going to a convention every other week during the summer. I'd go all three or four days, staying at the hotel and getting maybe 4-5 hours of sleep a night. And I was fine! Was great! And now.... Now I go one day, for a few hours, and I'm totally wiped out.

Ah, where did my youth go? .^^

I didn't take any pictures at all (well... except for a few of G & T), just because I was too lazy to dig my camera out of my bag. But notable cosplays include the hot Edgeworth chick, a Rabi, a Tyki (with Road .^,^ ), Ulquiorra, and... I'm sure there were more that I'm not remembering. There was also an Ukitake, but... she kinda sucked. .o_o Well, ok, I actually don't think I even looked at the outfit - I was too distracted by the giant floating CLOUD that was her wig. .-_- Again, if you're going to cosplay, at least make an effort, plz. Spending $25 on a decent wig isn't such a bad idea, mkay?

Anyway. That's the story. .^^ I'm probably forgetting stuff, but I'm so tired right now I can't think straight, and my eyes hurt. .;_;

Will sleep well tonight.
